Even the documentary photograph presents some degree of fiction and is not the sum of it factual parts. In this regard, even an analog photograph is an altered document. Not simply a visual flourish, the digital-analog is a function of the way that we use, and build on, visual languages of the past. I like how in this image Rivory has balanced the light and dark tones. I think by using black and white film the contrast between the tones is very satisfying and more noticeable.

The image is bright and airy with a slight overexposed feel, which contributes to Rivory's broader theme of having hazy and foggy memories throughout your adult life that fades into your imagination. Rivory has cleverly used the horizon point of the image to show the use of line. The horizon point is along the upper, vertical third of the image due to the camera's position of a low angle.
