Norman catherine artist biography

Three Centuries of S. Art, H. Fransen A. DonkerJohannesburg. This project involved the building of Fook Manor at Hartebeespoort Dam, designing murals and merchandising. Catherine spent time overseas, in New York and Los Angeles, working on various projects. As both a sculptor and painter, Catherine works in an assortment of media, ranging from oil, acrylic, watercolour, and airbrush; as well as wood, fibreglass, wire, and metal.

Hazel Friedman, Norman Catherine, Incognito at Everard Read Johannesburg, Since that solo exhibition consisting of oil paintings on wood, bone, wire and an assortment of found objects, Norman Catherine's art has since undergone "several metamorphoses, from the pristine airbrush paintings of the 70s to the frenzied, ritualistic mixed media works of the early and mid 80s; the wire sculptures and tin can works of the late 80s, and the primitive-futuristic paintings of the early 90s which provided the seeds for his pre-millennial menagerie of anthropomorphic beasts.
